Can a man eat from an animal slaughtered by a woman?

Question:

Assalaam wa alaykum

Please could you advise on the ruling of cutting animals for consumption with regards to a woman?

If there is a man around is she allowed to cut and if she cuts the animal can a male consume it? Jazakallah

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is permissible for the woman to slaughter the animal if she has the ability to do so even if there are males around.

It is permissible for the man to consume meat from an animal that was correctly slaughtered by a Muslim female.[1]

[1]2304 – حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، سَمِعَ المُعْتَمِرَ، أَنْبَأَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ابْنَ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّهُ كَانَتْ لَهُمْ غَنَمٌ تَرْعَى بِسَلْعٍ، فَأَبْصَرَتْ جَارِيَةٌ لَنَا بِشَاةٍ مِنْ غَنَمِنَا مَوْتًا، فَكَسَرَتْ حَجَرًا فَذَبَحَتْهَا بِهِ، فَقَالَ لَهُمْ: لاَ تَأْكُلُوا حَتَّى أَسْأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، أَوْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ يَسْأَلُهُ، وَأَنَّهُ سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ ذَاكَ، أَوْ أَرْسَلَ، «فَأَمَرَهُ بِأَكْلِهَا» قَالَ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ: «فَيُعْجِبُنِي أَنَّهَا أَمَةٌ، وَأَنَّهَا ذَبَحَتْ» تَابَعَهُ عَبْدَةُ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّه)صحيح البخاري (3/ 99)(
