Question:

Removal of undesirable hair

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu `alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

The hair of the armpit should be plucked. If it is difficult to pluck the hair, it may be removed by shaving or by any hair removing aid. The hair around the private parts should also be removed. [i]

 It is recommended to remove the unwanted hair at least once per week. (Ibid)

It is prohibited to leave unwanted hair for forty days and more.(Ibid)

The area of shaving for both male and female is above and around the private parts. If possible it is commendable to shave the back private part as well. (Al-Mahmood, pg.26 – Darul Ifta)
