Ayat of Fasting

Shortened Question:

To whom does the Ayat of fasting apply?

Question:

Is the Ayat of fasting being sent to the Ummah, Muslims or Believers of Islam?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Fasting is an act of worship (ibadat). It is one of the Fundamental Principles (Pillars) of Islam.

Allah Subhana wa Ta’ala says:[1]

“Oh you who believe fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed to those before you so that you may attain Taqwa (God-Fearing).”

Allah Subhana wa Ta’Ala says Oh you who believe. This is a general command for everyone who is a Believer in Islam. The command is that they should fast. (Mariful Quran – Maktaba-eDarul-Uloom; pg. 454)
