Hijab from Father-in-law

Shortened Question:

1)     Is Hijab from one’s father-in-law compulsory?

2)     Is it true that the stomach that extended from the chest is part and parcel of Iblees?

3)     Is it permissible to use contraceptive if the health of the wife is at risk?

Question:

1)     Is Hijab from one’s father-in-law compulsory?

2)     I have read where it says that the stomach that extends from the chest is part and parcel of the Iblees.

3)     If the health of the wife does not permit, can she use contraceptives?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

1)     Hijab is not compulsory from one’s father-in-law. However, if there is fear of fitnah which is common in today’s society, then it would be advisable for the daughter-in-law to clothe herself modestly and to keep at a distance from the father-in-law.

2)     No, this is not true.

3)     If medical facts have proven that conception is an impediment to the health of the wife then she will be allowed to use contraceptives.
