Question:

As salamu alaikum, I was married to my husband for 8 months and we had a few arguments and family problems. Later on I asked him for divorce and three weeks later I was at my parents and he sent a letter writing talak 3 times. He did not know at that time that one (1) divorce is enough. Is this still counted as 3 talaks?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

The three written divorces issued by your husband are valid and will constitute talaq-e-mugallazah (a permanently irrevocable divorce).[1]

The nikah has been severed and you are no longer husband and wife.
