Question:
Is it allowed in Islam to talk and to look at female classmates (non-mahram) for educational purpose or any needy situation?
Should we look at our female class teacher during lecture (dressed in skinny fit clothes)?
Answer:
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Shariah has closed all doors leading to immorality.
Allah Ta’ala says:
وَلَا تَقْرَبُوا الزِّنَا إِنَّهُ كَانَ فَاحِشَةً وَسَاءَ سَبِيلًا
Do not even come near to fornication. It is indeed a shame and an evil way to follow. (Surah Bani Israil 17:32)
The act of committing zina (fornication/adultery) is so despicable that Allah Subhana wa Ta’ala did not just command us to stay away from this shameful act, rather He commanded “Do not even come near” to zina.
Almighty Allah Ta’ala is our Creator. He knows our innermost desires and weaknesses. A male is attracted to a female and vice versa. It is for this reason and to close the door of immorality and shamelessness that intermingling of sexes is prohibited.
Accordingly the mixed gender educational system is Un-Islamic.
The evils emanating from co-ed schools are more than clear and make the reason for the prohibition abundantly clear.
Statistics has shown that one out of every four girls attending a co-ed school is raped at least once through their period of studying at the institution.
Consider the following shocking information:
Date rape, a form of acquaintance rape, is a non-domestic rape committed by someone who knows the victim. This constitutes the vast majority of rapes reported. It can occur between two people who know one another usually in social situations, between people who are dating as a couple and have had consensual sex in the past, between two people who are starting to date, between people who are just friends, and between acquaintances. It includes rape of co-workers, schoolmates, friends, and other acquaintances, providing they are dating. Date rape is considered the most unreported crime on college campuses. The term date rape is often referred to as ‘acquaintance rape’ or ‘hidden rape’ and has been identified as a growing problem in western society. College and university campuses are prime locations for date rape to occur due to the high volume of students’ interest in romantic relationships. A college survey conducted by the National Victim Center reported that one in four college women have been raped or experienced attempted rape. This report indicates that young women are at considerable risk of becoming victims of date rape while in college.

It is therefore not permissible to be part of such an educational system, let aside being there and enquiring about seeing a class colleague or a lecturer of the opposite gender.
When butter is kept close to the fire, it will melt irrespective of how the butter is kept and positioned.
When one is in close proximity to the opposite gender the butter of his heart will melt. That opens the door for evil and immoral acts.
