Internet Relationship

Shortened Question:

Should I maintain my relationship with a girl that I met on the internet?

Question:

Assalaamu alaikum,

Mufti Sab, I am 25 years old and a Software Engineer by Profession. I live in India. I recently spent 4 months in Tableeghi Jamaath and now have understood the duties of a Muslim. I am trying to become a practicing Muslim.

But sometime before, I met a girl over the internet and I was emotionally attached with this girl, who is from Germany. Recently, I have made Taubah and have planned to be a Muttaqi Insha Allah. So I decided to delete the fake email account I had created to chat over the internet. But before that I thought I will tell all the truth to this German girl and log off from these prohibited activities permanently. But she says she loves me and would even revert to Islam if I want. We haven’t seen each other so far. I am totally confused. I do not know whether to neglect this girl and start off a fresh as a good Muslim or to help her in accepting Islam.

Kindly note that I am from India and she is from Germany and she is only 16 years old, while I am 25 years old. Please help me out of this situation and also pray that I become a Muttaqi and do not break my Taubah.

Jazakallahu Khairan Wa Ahsanul Jaza.

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

If you intend to marry this girl then propose to her and tell her that you would like her to become a Muslim.

If you do not intend to marry her then tell her that Islam prohibits free mixing of opposite gender and that you had erred in communicating with her. Tell her you are sorry and ask her to forgive you for your mistake.

Inform her that you have repented and refer her to a female Muslim or to reliable female web site such as www.idealwoman.org for Islamic Guidance.
